At the College of Brockport’s Department of Social Work we prepare students to study, confront and tackle some of society’s most demanding problems. Graduates from our program acquire skills and knowledge to help influence the world around them.  Our unique combination of classroom and real-world internship experiences prepare students to serve individuals, families, organizations, and communities. Faculty engage students through coursework that bridges theory and real-world practice.

Students have access to a vast network of area providers where they gain experience delivering services. Internship settings include community-based social service organizations, hospitals, outpatient health clinics, schools, and many others.  Within these settings, students may tailor their interests to a variety of populations including families, children, adults, older adults, and more. The program  also provides international opportunities to study abroad in locations such as Costa Rica, Ireland, and Puerto Rico. For over 10 years, the Vietnam Project remains a popular international experience for students at the College and beyond.

Our committed faculty experts draw on diverse experiences in their fields and bring those experiences into the classroom setting.  Expertise includes issues of aging to childhood nutrition, from breaking the grip of poverty to expanding diversity, from preventing domestic violence to human rights. To demonstrate how course work translates into real situations, professors empower students to engage and organize community service projects including the Take Back the Night March, Tent City, Clothesline Project, Rochester Reality Tour, and campus-based research projects.

Graduates continue their professional growth by acquiring employment in a variety of settings; many also pursue a Master of Social Work degree , through our unique joint program with Nazareth College.

We encourage you to explore our Web site and learn more about the rewards of pursuing a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Social Work.
