Telecourses for College Credit
You may already be one of the more than 9,000 SUNY Brockport students who have earned college credit by taking a telecourse this past decade. If you are not familiar with the many features of a telecourse that make it a convenient and flexible learning tool, consider these questions to decide if telecourses are right for you.
Why take a telecourse?
Students take telecourses because they attend class every other week. If you work, have family and community responsibilities, and want to reduce trips to class meetings, you benefit from this option. Telecourses are rigorous and students must be self-motivated and study independently.
How does a telecourse work?
Telecourses combine weekly television viewing with seven to eight class meetings with your instructor and other students. You read the text(s) and/or study guide that accompany the course, do homework, take tests, and engage in independent study. Telecourses cover the same material and have the same academic standards as courses that meet every week. Faculty are available for consultation before or after class and by telephone.
How do I view the programs?

You have four options available for viewing telecourse programs. Detailed broadcast schedules will be provided for each course.

1. You can watch them on WXXI-TV and/or Greater Rochester Time Warner Cable (Ch 4). There are repeat broadcasts on Time Warner (TW). TW Ch 4 includes City of Rochester, Brighton, Brockport, Byron, Chili, Churchville, Clarendon, Clarkson, East Rochester, Fairport, Gates, Greece, Hamlin, Henrietta, Hilton, Irondequoit, Murray, Ogden, Parma, Penfield, Perinton, Pittsford, Riga, Spencerport, Sweden and Webster.

2. You can create your own viewing schedule by recording the programs or by viewing them at SUNY Brockport's Drake Library (pick-up at Circulation Reserve Desk) or at the SUNY Brockport MetroCenter at 55 St Paul Street, Rochester. The programs can be viewed at either site, but can not be removed from that site.

3.Streaming video is available at www.learner.org/view_programs/view.programs.html for the following courses distributed by Annenberg Media: Out of the Past, A World of Art, American Cinema, Earth Revealed, The World of Abnormal Psychology, and Growing Old in a New Age. You must have a broadband connection to access video streaming. Streaming video availability is subject to change without notice.

4. A rental option is also available through ACT Inc. (800-745-5480). Registered students are provided with the rental information.

Where do I purchase my book(s) and/or study guide?
There are several options: In person, by phone, on-line, fax or mail from the SUNY Brockport Bookstore. For detailed information contact the bookstore by calling (585) 395-2554 or visit the Web site at http://www.bkstore.com/brockport/.
