Student employees must accurately report hours worked on timesheets.  Supervisors must certify that the hours worked are correct.

Our policy is to immediately and permanently terminate employees who falsify timesheets.  There are several penalties:

 1.     This violates state and federal law.  The student may be charged with forgery and petit larceny, one count for each timesheet.  These are misdemeanor charges.  If the pay illegally obtained is large enough, a felony charge of grand larceny may also be made.

2.     There are additional federal laws regarding fraud in obtaining financial aid.  Fines of up to $10,000 and 5 years in jail are potential penalties.  Immediate termination from Work-Study, repayment of aid received and a permanent bar from receiving further financial aid of any type are possible penalties.  The student must be reported to the US Department of Education for possible prosecution.

Conviction of a felony will bar a student form entry into certain professions such as teaching or nursing.

3.     This action violates the Brockport Codes of Student Social Conduct regarding theft, and the student will be charged with violations.

Suspension or dismissals from the College are other potential penalties. Students should be reminded that the timesheet must accurately report hours worked. The College will take action in cases of timesheet fraud.

Supervisors should keep in mind that their signature on the timesheet attests to their knowledge of and confirmation of hours worked.  Failure to have an adequate system in place may result in the loss of CWS funding.  If departments would like a review of their record-keeping procedures, contact Student Employment at 395-2468.
