Winter Seminars
During January intersession, SUNY Brockport offers SUNY Seminars in Washington – two week seminar courses on selected topics in political science and public policy. The topics change each January and the courses are taught by SUNY Brockport faculty, faculty members from other schools participating in the WSP consortium, and Washington-based experts.
Each seminar meets for three hours a day and includes supplemental field trips as well as special classes and programs conducted by career service experts.
The January intersession is ideal for:
Political science or public policy majors looking for specialized and/or topical courses not offered at their home campus;
Community college students who want to sample political science or public policy as a major;
International students looking for a close-up view of policy-making in Washington; and
Students seeking an off-campus course and a base to explore career options in Washington.
Students may register for only one of three or more courses offered each January but may participate in the January session in successive years. They may also participate in the Fall, Spring or Summer Programs. Students should be aware that most schools do not permit the use of financial aid for winter intersession courses.
SUNY Seminars in Washington courses are open to students from non-participating schools as well as applicants from WSP consortium schools. Students are responsible for securing the permission of their home school to participate in the January intersession program but they must register for the January session as visiting students at SUNY Brockport.
Housing in January is available at the program-maintained apartments in Alexandria, Virginia.
