Washington Program

Professor John Fitzpatrick

John Fitzpatrick is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science at SUNY Brockport and the Director of SUNY Brockport’s Washington programs. He has his B.S from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and his Ph.D. from SUNY at Buffalo. He has taught at Iowa State University, at George Mason University, and in American University’s Washington Semester Program. For ten years he served as Chief of Staff and Political Director for Tom Harkin (D-IA) and for eight years he ran a political consulting firm whose clients included Senators Daschle and Mikulski, the Democratic National Committee, numerous Congressional candidates, advocacy groups, and two presidential campaigns. In addition to his interests in politics and public policy, Professor Fitzpatrick is active in SUNYCDO, the university’s organization of career development officers.

Kyaw Lin Htut

Mr. Htut works on student recruitment and internship placement and assists with the Washington Program’s seminar course.  He has a B.A. in Economics and Political Science and an M.A. in Economics from SUNY University Center at Buffalo.  Mr. Htut has lived in Burma, South Africa, Jamaica, and Buffalo and worked in the Washington offices of the Financial Services Forum and for GRM International, an Australian International Development Company.  He participated in the SUNY Brockport Internship program in summer 2007.

Kaylea Happell

Ms. Happell is the Washington Program Outreach Coordinator and works with students, alums, participating colleges, and the main campus on all aspects of the program’s academic, career, alumni, and publication activities.  She received her B.A. in Political Science and International Studies from SUNY Brockport and will receive her M.A. from George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs in May 2009.  She has worked for the Atlantic Council of the United States and for the American Federation of Teachers International Affairs Office.  She participated in the Washington Program in spring semester, 2006.
