New Students
What’s Welcome Weekend?
Simply put, it’s our way to welcome you to the Brockport family. Whether you’re a freshman or transfer student, resident or commuter, traditional or non-traditional… you’re all invited to share in the activities during Welcome Weekend. We’ve put together several “get to know us” events, including workshops and fun activities. Pick up your free College T-shirt during the New Student Mandatory Orientation Session at 4 pm on January 23. Call the Office of Campus Life at (585) 395-5646 or e-mail camlife@brockport.edu with any questions.
Please review the Schedule of Events for Welcome Weekend before you arrive on campus. There are several mandatory events for all new students, whether you are a freshman or transfer student.
Before You Arrive
Luggage and Transportation
If you’re arriving in Rochester on Friday, January 22, by plane, bus or train, the College will provide a van to the campus from 9 am to 4 pm. This service is provided for those arriving Friday, January 22 only.
You need to register in advance, for this pickup service. Please contact the Office of Campus Life by Tuesday, January 19 at (585) 395-5646, fax (585) 395-2567 or e-mail camlife@brockport.edu. Include: your name, arrival time, location, how many pieces of luggage, phone number and any other pertinent information.
Luggage shipped ahead to the campus may be picked up at the Receiving Office in Chapman Service Center (Building 35 on campus map) Monday – Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm. (See special weekend hours for Welcome Weekend.) You must provide appropriate identification to pick up your luggage.
New Resident Students
If you are unable to view your assignment after logging in from the link at www.brockport.edu/reslife by January 18, please contact the Office of Residential Life at housing@brockport.edu or (585) 395-2108. The Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities sends all official College communications using Bmail. It is important to check your Brockport e-mail account regularly.
- New freshman, transfer and readmitted students who are not registered may check in to their residence hall, Thursday, January 21, 3 – 5 pm.
- New freshman, transfers and readmitted students who are registered may check in Friday, January 22, 9 am – 5 pm.
- International students should contact their program offices for check-in dates and times for spring 2010.
Family Accommodations
Family members who need overnight accommodations should make their reservations early. Please click here for a list of area lodging.
Meal Plans/ID Cards
New students who have not signed up for a meal plan may sign up online or visit the BASC Business Office (Brockway Hall) to purchase one. Only one change in your meal plan may be made until Friday, February 12, 2010. After that date, no changes may be made. Cash is accepted at all dining services locations.
If you do not have an Eagle One ID Card, visit the BASC Business Office (Brockway Hall) to have your photo taken and receive your free card.
When you get here
Welcome Weekend begins on Friday, January 22. When you get here, there are some important things for you to know:
Resident Students
- Enter the Main Entrance off Route 31 (Commencement Drive), and turn right at the stop sign onto New Campus Drive.
- Turn left at the traffic light onto Kenyon Street and continue over the railroad tracks. For students residing in Harmon, Gordon or Morgan Halls, continue on Kenyon Street and look for signs to your building.
- Take your first left turn onto Residence Drive.
- Proceed down Residence Drive to your assigned residence hall, and park in the first available parking lot designated as your building unloading lot.
- Go directly to the main desk located inside your assigned residence hall from 9 am to 5 pm.
- Once your vehicle is unloaded, please relocate to Lot T, V, or X. This will help us keep traffic flowing during check in.
Off-campus/Commuter Students
- Enter the Main Entrance off Route 31 (Commencement Drive) and turn right at the stop sign onto New Campus Drive.
- Park in Lot T (the second parking lot on the right).
- Please refer to the Welcome Weekend Schedule for information on activities and events for Friday, January 22.
After arriving on campus, you may want to:
- Drop off immunization (MMR and meningitis) information to the Student Health Center (Hazen Hall), if not already submitted. New York State law requires immunization information be submitted before classes begin.
- Get your Eagle One ID Card and set up your meal plan. (BASC Business Office, Brockway Hall).
- Buy your textbooks at the Barnes & Noble College Bookstore. (Seymour College Union).
- Purchase your parking permit (Raye H. Conrad Welcome Center). Buying online will help you avoid long lines.
- Finalize financial aid plans. (Rakov Center).
- Check or pay your student account. (Rakov Center)
- Visit Student Employment. (Rakov Center).
- Resident students: Visit Telecommunications to complete a Student PBN (Personal Billing Number) Form (for international calling). All local and long distance calls are free for on-campus students.
