Welcome Weekend Assistants

The Welcome Week Assistants play a critical role in the success of Welcome Week and help guide and assist new students and their families as they make the transition to college life. Throughout Welcome Week, these students serve as resources for you and your family, providing information about academic policies,  major campus events, student organizations, and campus life.

If you see any of these students on campus during Welcome Week, please say hello.

Melissa   Melissa Braun

Hello, incoming Brockport students! I am so excited for you all to show up in the upcoming weeks. I have been a part of Welcome Week for the past three years, and I am more than excited to assist you with your move-in process this year. I am a senior, and I just recently got accepted into the nursing program here at Brockport and plan to stay the extra year to finish out the program. I am from the little town of Port Jervis, about five hours away, but I have made Brockport my second home with the help of all the great staff and new friends I have made. Brockport has so many great qualities that anyone would enjoy, and I hope you all plan to get involved. See you soon!

Hello incoming Brockport students! My name is Tashauna and I am so excited for you all to show up in the next upcoming months.  I am more than excited to assist you with your transition into college. I am a senior and I just recently got accepted into the nursing program here at Brockport. I am originally from Jamaica but I currently live in Long Island NY.  Brockport has so many great opportunities and I hope you get involved. I am involved in many activities on campus. Some of you may remember me as an Orientation Student Advisor from this past summer. I am a C-STEP scholar, Gold leadership and development member and a freshman peer mentor. My favorite thing about Brockport are all the opportunities Brockport has to offer.  Don't be afraid to ask for help.  Most likely others will have the same questions.  Make sure you get involved.  That is the easiest way to enjoy your college years.

HeatherHeather Scheer

Hello and welcome to Brockport! My name is Heather Scheer and I’m from Buffalo. In the last year, Brockport has become my second home. The people are friendly and the town is quaint. I take advantage of all of the pizza places in the village as well as the dollar movie nights at The Strand. Also, one of my favorite things to do in the fall is visit the farmer’s market on Sundays. On campus, I work with Recreation Services in the fitness center. You will probably see me there frequently! I love taking the free Zumba and pilates classes that the school offers. I also dance in the school's new swing dance club. It is a lot of fun! I am a sophomore nursing intent at Brockport. The nursing program at Brockport is an extremely supportive and loving learning environment. Though I am not in the program yet, the nursing professors have already become an inspiration. Freshman year can be a tough adjustment for most people — it definitely was for me — but I promise that soon it will feel like your second home, too!

I will be a junior in the fall studying communications (public relations) with minors in film and military science. I'm an on-campus representative with the Brockport student government. I'm also a member of tennis club. This summer I was an orientation advisor. I got to meet so many incoming freshmen and was able to tell them all my favorite stories about Brockport. I love the opportunities that Brockport gives students. Right now I'm studying abroad in Japan. In the winter I'll be taking protest and public opinion which takes students to Memphis to do service projects. My number one piece of advice is to get involved in something that you like! Don't feel obligated to do something you're not interested in. You'll make so many connections and help yourself get a job if you get involved!

Laura Vanzetta

I am entering into my sophomore year at Brockport and I am very excited to help incoming students as a welcome weekend assistant! As a double major in dance and psychology, being a student has kept me very busy, but my experience at Brockport has been exciting and memorable already. I have been a very active member of The Hip Hop Dance Club throughout my first two semesters as well as a volunteer in the FACTS program, helping families that have children with autism. I have experienced incredible moments at Brockport, my favorite being meeting new people and becoming extremely close with my roommate and her family.  I am honored and excited to be apart of the incoming students first experience at Brockport!

Laura                                                                                                   Alexandra Metcalfe

Hi I am Alexandra Metcalfe from Schenectady NY. I am an International Business major and business administration major with a pre-law intent. I will be a sophomore in the fall and intend to graduate in spring of 2016. I am a part of the Delta College here on campus. My favorite part about being a Golden Eagle is being able to be a part of and participate in many of the clubs and activities campus puts on and provides for students. A fun fact about me is that I have been to France. One piece of advice to incoming students would be to get involved on campus and take advantage of everything campus has to offer like clubs, activities, the SERC, study abroad, and sporting events to just name a few.

Sha'Kela Wesley

I'm an art therapy major. I'll be a senior this year, class of 2014. I volunteer with multiple clubs and organizations on campus, such as ALAS and OSAD. I love Brockport for its family like qualities.
