Welcome Weekend Assistants
The Welcome Week Assistants play a critical role in the success of Welcome Week and help guide and assist new students and their families as they make the transition to college life. Throughout move-in and the weekend portion (August 22 - August 26) of Welcome Week, these students serve as resources for you and your family, providing information about academic policies and programs, social organizations, campus life and curricular/co-curricular activities.
If you see any of these students on campus during Welcome Week, please say hello.
Melissa Braun
Hello incoming Brockport students! I am so excited for you all to show up in the next upcoming weeks. I have been a part of Welcome Week for the past three years and I am more than excited to assist you with your move in process this year. I am a senior and I just recently got accepted into the nursing program here at Brockport and plan to stay the extra year to finish out the program. I am from the little town of Port Jervis about five hours away but I have made Brockport my second home with the help of all the great staff and new friends I have made. Brockport has so many great qualities that anyone would enjoy and I hope you all plan to get involved. See you soon!
Alexis Dawkins
I’m from Depew, NY and currently heading into my senior year here at the College at Brockport. I am a double major in Dance and Interdisciplinary Arts for Children, as well as pursing certification in the Childhood Inclusive Education program. Even though I maintain a very busy academic schedule, I still make time to be a member of the Brockport Dance Team Emeralds (I’ll be the secretary this year!) I’m also a member of the Arts for Children club because I love working with young children. When I’m not in class you’ll probably find me skipping or dancing around campus. Dance is one of my favorite things to do! If I’m not dancing I’m enjoying listening to Justin Bieber, watching Pretty Little Liars, flower hairclips and buying new Vera Bradley bags. I’m very excited to be a Welcome Week Assistant and to work with the whole Welcome Week team as well as meeting all of the new incoming students and their parents!
Tashauna Dyer

Jacki Flis
My name is Jacki Flis and I am from Buffalo, New York. This fall, I will be a senior at the College at Brockport, majoring in Health Science. My goal is to be a community health educator. Besides being a Welcome Week Assistant, I worked as a student manager in Prevention and Outreach Services with the Late Night with Ellsworth Program, and was also an office assistant in the Anthropology Department. Also, this upcoming winter break, I plan to study aboard for two weeks in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. This past summer I kept busy by working at Marshalls, which will help me pay for the trip to Spain. When not hitting the books, I enjoy watching the Yankees and Sabres, traveling, and drinking coffee while reading a good book. Good luck to all of the incoming students on your first year here at SUNY Brockport!

Hello Class of 2016, welcome to Brockport! My name is Heather Scheer and I’m from Buffalo. In the last year Brockport has become my second home. The people are friendly and the town is quaint. I take advantage of all of the pizza places in the village as well as the dollar movie nights at The Strand. Also, one of my favorite things to do in the fall is visit the farmer’s market on Sundays. On campus, I work with Recreation Services in the fitness center. You will probably see me there frequently! I love taking the free Zumba and pilates classes that the school offers. I also dance in the schools new swing dance club. It is a lot of fun! I am a sophomore nursing intent at Brockport. The nursing program at Brockport is an extremely supportive and loving learning environment. Though I am not in the program yet the nursing professors have already become an inspiration. Freshman year can be a tough adjustment for most people, it definitely was for me, but I promise that soon it will feel like your second home too!
