The College at Brockport's Living Learning Communities

MSLC: Math and Science Learning Community

The Math and Science Learning Community (MSLC) is designed for first-year students who are interested in studying:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Computational Science
  • Computer Information Systems
  • Computer Science
  • Earth Sciences
  • Environmental Science & Biology
  • Geology
  • Mathematics
  • Meteorology
  • Physics
  • Water Resources

.

In a residence hall atmosphere that is focused on achievement and success, you will receive academic support from faculty as well as junior and senior science and math majors. You and other MSLC students will live in the newly renovated (2005) McFarlane Hall and have opportunities to develop relationships with science and math faculty outside the context of the classroom.

The MSLC promotes career exploration through trips to research centers and businesses employing science and math graduates, giving you first hand experiences with science and math career possibilities. Learning community members arrive on campus two days before other first-year students to meet other members and to initiate the community’s activities.

2008-2009 Math and Science Learning Community

"Having study groups with people that I’m close to really takes the stress away sometimes: we laugh, have fun and are always finding new ways to learn."

- Samantha LeClerc

"It helps so much when you have people taking the same classes as you living right down the hall. You can literally discuss coursework at any time of the day, every day."

- Glenn McKeever

"My favorite part of the community is how constructive it is.  Without the academically-focused living environment, I would have great difficulty succeeding in my harder classes."

- Molly Stetz

"I've never felt more a part of something, being a resident in the Math and Science Learning Community. I've found so much support and met so many great people.”

- Amber Karpie

"I saw the MSLC as the perfect opportunity to automatically surround myself with intelligent, honest, dedicated, hard working students.  Being a part of a community makes the college transition so much fun, and really easy."

- Brianna Sepulveda
