Stress is a fact of life. We live with it everyday. There's stress in our homes, our
jobs, and our relationships with family and friends. And that's not all bad.

Stress, in manageable amounts, is necessary for a healthy life. Moderate stress
motivates us to deal with life's changes. It helps us achieve new goals. It makes
life interesting.

But under too much stress - stress we can't control - our physical and mental
health becomes threatened.

Excessive stress isn't limited to adults only. Our children are especially
vulnerable to chronic stress. In fact, studies have identified stress as a major
factor in child and adolescent health behavior problems.

The challenge is clear. Each of us (adults, adolescents, and children) need to
identify and manage life's pressures. The good news is you can learn to control
stress.

The institute uses successful programs to help both adults who work with
children and adolescents, and children themselves, deal with life's stressors.

For the sake of our children's good health, we think it's important to remember
that just because stress is a fact of life doesn't mean stress has to be a way of
life.
