Remember this building? If you
were around Brockport in the 1930s you would! Its the old "Normal" school, which
stood where Hartwell Hall is today. Since most of the campus was laid out in the
50's and 60's its easy to think that's when it all started here, but our school
was around long before then! Started in the 1840s, we have a rich tradition of
education and opportunity, and this site is a tour of that heritage.
Housed in the Drake Memorial Library, the College Archives maintains, collects and makes available to interested researchers materials of permanent significance to the history of the college. The collection includes a run of catalogs from 1842 to the present, student publications like the Stylus, department and college newsletters, thousands of photographs, pennants, program flyers, scrapbooks and much more. If you have questions regarding Brockport's past, whether you need a course description for a class you took in the past, information about an ancestor who attended the school in earlier generations, the history of a building or program, or almost anything else, please feel free to write, phone, visit or e-mail the archivist. (Visitors are welcome but please contact the archivist first - the archives are available only by appointment.) Donations of documents, photographs and other items related to the history of the school are welcome within the limits of available space and resources, and with the understanding that they may be used for educational purposes.
