Ebsco: Business Source Premier is the major full text database for business and economics. Hundreds of journal, magazine and newspaper articles full text. For many titles the date coverage is back to the 1960s or earlier.

Lexis-Nexis The Business section of this is a tremendous resource - periodical articles like NY Times and Business Week, in the "News" section, very informative reports and articles in the "Industry & Market" section, and much more - all full text!

InfoTrac Business Center A small but good collection of periodicals full text are combined with business reference sources like Ward's Business Directory, World Market Share Reporter etc.

Internet Sites & CDs

Hoovers: This is an excellent site for researching foreign companies, as well as stock prices etc...

U.S. Customs Service: This site provides full access to quota and tariff information databases and much more, including many trade statistics. Click on the left hand link for "importing and exporting."

International Trade Administration An excellent business site sponsored by the Department of Commerce. This site has a wealth of statistics and reports on many aspects of international marketing and trade. Go to this part of their site for state or region exporting information.

Country Commercial Guides: These useful guides prepared by the Dept. of Commerce include sections like "Marketing U.S. Products and Services" and much more.

NTDB (National Trade Database). A CD-ROM, database that provides detailed and specific statistical trade data, for example how many radial tires are sold to Chile per year. Also has text of some relevant government publications. Located on a PC in the reference desk; ask the librarian for assistance.

Books: Circulating, Reference...

Brockport Library Catalog: Use the catalog to check library book, video, and magazine or periodical holdings information. Use Title Keyword to browse the catalog. To search by subject, use Exact Subject and type in terms such as "International business" and "International trade".

Reference Sources:

Country Study Series. US Documents D101.22:550. Excellent, well presented sources covering many (but not all) nations. Factual description and analysis of a nation's geography, economy, culture, government and politics. These are very practical and helpful books.You can also search it online.

Europa World Year Book REF JN1 .E85. An annual encyclopedia that covers all countries. Good basic background history, political situation, and helpful basic statistics.

NAICS & SIC: The SIC was the standard industry classification for many years; it is now being replaced by the NAICS. Many business reference sources are organized by these codes.There are handbooks for each at the reference desk, or you can search them online.

Statistical Yearbook. REF HA12.5 .U63. An annual title from the UN. It usually is a couple years behind the date, but it is an extensive source of statistics. It covers population, economic activity (wages, manufacturing...) international economics, like international merchandise trade etc., plus much more.

World Economic and Social Survey. REF HC59 .A169. Comes out yearly, from the UN. Includes both descriptions of economic and social conditions across the globe and statistics relating to those conditions.

Directories:

Principal International Businesses. REF HF54 .U5 P74 2002/03. Information on more than 55,000 enterprises in over 130 countries. Lists by country name and then by company. Gives CEO, address, sales volume, number of employees and SIC codes.Tells if a company is a subsidiary or not, and whether it imports and/or exports.

International Directory of Corporate Affiliations. REF HD2741 .I59 2000. "Who owns whom" is their slogan. They tell you the "who and whom" for over 5000 companies doing international business.
