Undergraduate
Students:
  • Your Eagle One ID Card is your Library card. Be sure to bring it with you when you come to the Library.

  • You must have a valid Eagle One ID Card in order to borrow materials from Drake Library.  The Eagle One ID Card can be obtained from BASC

  • If you don't have your Eagle One ID Card with you and you need immediate borrowing privileges, a temporary student library card is available at the Circulation Desk for $2.00.  It will see you through the semester.  You will need to present proof of enrollment (student registration).

  • You may use and borrow books from any SUNY university, college, or community college library simply by showing your Brockport Eagle One ID Card.   This "Open Access" program allows you to do research across the State!
 

Graduate
Students:

  • You have privileges at Rochester area colleges and universities. Applications are available at the Circulation Desk for the RRLC "Access" card.
  • You have an academic year loan period, meaning all books are due on June 1st of each year.
 

Alumni:
  • Alumni are eligible for a library Courtesy Card at no charge. You can apply at the Circulation Desk. Please bring identification with you.
  • Users may borrow materials from the general collection, up to 20 checked out at any one time.
  • Users may borrow books from the general collection for 30 days.
  • Users may renew any books not wanted by another user.
  • Use of the card may be extended to immediate family members (spouses and children).

  • Courtesy card users are subject to all rules and regulations pertaining to the use of library materials, including those relating to recalled books, overdue fines and charges for lost materials. Borrowers who do not pay such fines and charges will be blocked from further circulation privileges until such fines are paid.

    These privileges do not include other library services such as Computer Search Services, Interlibrary Loan or remote access to licensed bibliographic databases.

Area Residents:
  • Residents of the counties of Monroe, Orleans, and Genesee are eligible to apply for a library Courtesy Card. You must be over 18 years of age, and have proof of residency. There is an annual fee of $25.00.
  • Users may borrow materials from the general collection, up to 20 checked out at any one time.
  • Users may borrow books from the general collection for 30 days.
  • Users may renew any books not wanted by another user.
  • Use of the card may be extended to immediate family members (spouses and children).

SUNY
   students
   faculty/staff
   from other
   campuses:
  • Through the "Open Access" program, you may borrow at SUNY Brockport. You must have a valid ID from your home institution, or proof of current registration.

Rochester Regional Library Council "Access" cardholders:
  • Our Library honors the RRLC Access card. Faculty members and matriculated graduate students at most Rochester area libraries are eligible for an Access card. Please contact your home institution library  

Loan Periods:
  • Regular circulating materials: Approximately a four week loan, but check the due date stamp in the back of the item. Faculty/staff receive an academic year loan, with all materials due June 1st.
    *** Please note: All materials are subject to recall if needed by another reader, and due dates are shortened from four weeks to two.
  • Reserve materials: Books and journals on Reserve circulate for approximately two hours and cannot leave the Library. Check the date/time noted in the Reserve item.
  • Videos: Feature films may be borrowed for seven days. Documentaries may be borrowed for two days.
  • Interlibrary Loan items: The loan period is set by the lending library. Please check due date noted on the wrapper on the front of the book.
Renewals:
  • Regular circulating materials may be renewed twice, online, in person, by phone at 395-2277 or by AOL Instant Messenger - Screen Name:DrakeCirc.
  • All other materials must be brought to the Library for renewal.
  • All fines must be paid before overdue materials can be renewed.
    To renew by phone, call 395-2277. You will need your ID card and books in front of you.


Holds & Recalls:

  • Although the normal loan period is four weeks, all books are subject to recall after two weeks. Patrons will be notified in writing if a book they have has been recalled. If a recalled book is not returned by the new due date, fines accrue at $1.00 per day until the item is returned.
  • Holds: Can be placed in person, by phone at 395-2277 or by AOL Instant Messenger - Screen Name:DrakeCirc.


Fines & Penalties:
  • Overdue fines:
    Regular circulating materials: $.25 per item per day.
    Reserve materials: $2.00 for the first hour, and $.25 for every subsequent hour.
    Videos: $2.00 per day.

  • Lost book charges: The price of the book as established in "Books in Print" or a default price of $45.00 for out-of-print books. A $15.00 processing fee is added to all replacement costs.
  • Recall charges: $1.00 per day, to a maximum of $15.00
  • Service charge: A $3.00 service charge is added to an account overdue more than 90 days.
  • Collection Agency: The Library participates in the College's Collection Agency procedures. If an account is turned over to the Collection Agency, the patron will be responsible for all additional fees and penalties added by the Agency.

Traces (Searches):
  • If you are unable to find an item that the Library Catalog says is "IN", please ask for a Trace Card at the Circulation Desk or fill out the online form here. We will search for the item, and notify you when we have found it.

Returning Materials:

All non-book materials (videos, cassettes, etc.) should be returned directly to the desk where they were checked out.

Reserve materials should be handed to a desk worker so they can be checked in immediately.

Circulating books can be returned to book drops in the following locations:

  • Circulation Desk at Drake Memorial Library
  • Outside book drops at the front entrance to the Library and on the west side of the Library on the ground level.
  • SUNY Student Resource Center in the new Bausch & Lomb Public Library Building in downtown Rochester.

Receipts for returns are issued upon request if items are returned directly to the Circulation Desk.

** Books may be sent at lower cost by requesting 4th Class "Library rate" at the Post Office.


Responsibility for Library Materials:
  Patrons are responsible for all materials borrowed with their ID card. We do not honor cards presented by anyone other than the patron whose name appears on the card, unless previous proxy borrowing privileges have been established.

Report lost or stolen ID cards to the Library and to the University Police office.

Transparencies:
Are available from the Circulation Desk for $.30 per plastic sheet, plus the $.10 photocopy charge ($.40 total). Only transparencies purchased from the Circulation Desk may be used in library photocopiers. Others tend to "melt" and damage our machines.
