Positions in this series are concerned with the administration of a specialized
research center. A research center usually provides for study, instruction,
and public service in a particular area of academic endeavor, often cutting
across disciplinary lines. It should be noted that a research center may be
university-wide in scope, providing inter-campus leadership in an area of scholarly
concern, or may be confined to a single campus servicing the needs of a particular
academic program or department.
Many titles in this series are followed by a descriptive phrase that serves to identify the particular center, institute, bureau, or program.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (Atmospheric Sciences Reasearch Center) acts as principal assistant to the director of a research facility acting for the Director in his absence. Assumes subordinate responsibility for the operation of a research program; provides liaison with research supporting agencies, governmental units, and interested persons; has primary responsibility for designated aspects of the research program; assists in the formulation of programs for the development and operation of the facility; performs other tasks as requested by the Director.
In cooperation with a graduate program in earth and atmospheric sciences, provides for graduate and undergraduate instruction and basic and applied research in atmospheric sciences. Includes facilities for the University-wide study of air pollution control, cloud formation and seeding, climate control, wind currents, and other aspects of meteorological and atmospheric phenomena.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and experience in the administration of research facilities
