This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.

The Director of Physical
Education is responsible for the physical education, intramural sports and intercollegiate
athletics at a campus. Does related work as required. In physical education, he
forms the academic administrative functions typical to those assigned to a chair
in a large department. He develops and supervises the intramural sports programs
and the inter-collegiate athletics program controlling a scheduling of events
and use of facilities. The Director of Athletics is responsible for selection
of the instructional staff and for the selection and maintenance of athletic equipment;
he also supervises the physical activity facilities and may be responsible for
development of a physical fitness program for college staff and for the development
of new programs and activities.
