ACTING PRESIDENT serves as
chief administrative officer of a University campus when the office of the present
is not covered as a result of a leave or separation from service. Acting Presidents,
like Presidents, provide leadership and direct the most complex, demaning, and
frequently sensitive responsibilities in the areas of teaching-learning, scholarship-research,
and appropriate public service. Recommends policy to System Administration and
implements locally the policies of the Board of Trustees and the Chancellor; directs
current and long-raing planning related to institutional goals, academic programs,
teaching approaches, research, public service, financing, enrollment projections,
and physical plant development; assures the development and maintenance of appropriate
administrative organization and policy-making structure for the most efficient
and effective utilization of campus resources; supervises the development and
maintenance of a personnel system concerned with the recruitment, selection, assignment,
supervision, evaluation, promotion and tenure of all personnel of the institution;
directs the preparation, presentation, and administration of the financial budget
and the development and maintenance of the facilities and equipment necessaryy
for the support of the campus' functions; maintains daily working relationships
with the campus Council or Trustees, System Administration, other campuses of
the University system and other public and private colleges and universities in
regional consortia, with the State University Construction Fund, the State Dormitory
Authority, the campus axuiliary services corporation, othe non-State organizations
on campus, State and Federal agencies and with faculty, staff, students, alumni,
parents, the local community, and other constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate and progressively
responsible executive experience in higher education programs, campuses or related
enterprises.
