Tutoring for Specific Courses

What does this tutoring program do?

Tutoring for specific courses is designed to assist SUNY Brockport students who have questions, uncertainties, and/or difficulties with course work in content-specific classes (e.g., history, biology, etc.).  In the past, the SLC has employed tutors for specific courses in the following disciplines:

How can tutors for specific courses help me?

Tutoring for specific courses, available during the fall and spring semesters only, is generally designed to assist students in introductory and lower-level courses (100-200 level).  If you need assistance with upper-level courses, or if you would like tutoring for a content area not listed above, please speak with Mary Ann Giglio (585) 395-5469 to determine how the SLC can help you.

studyWho are the tutors?

All of the SLC's tutors for specific courses are undergraduate and graduate students majoring in their respective content field who are selected based upon recommendations by teaching faculty.  Tutors are chosen based on academic excellence, content-specific knowledge, and a willingness to help others.  Upon being hired, tutors participate in a training seminar and, throughout the semester, are closely supervised.

Do I need an appointment to meet with a content tutor?

No.  Students may drop in for tutoring in specific subject areas according to the schedule for that particular tutor.  Find out when tutoring is available for the courses in which you need help. Students may work individually with a tutor or in small groups, and they may stay for as long as they continue to require assistance. For answers to any other questions about the SLC's content tutoring program, please contact Secretary Diana Pask at (585) 395-2293.
