Tutoring for Specific Courses

Available During Fall and Spring Semesters

What does this tutoring program do?

Tutoring for specific courses is designed to help students who have questions about their course work that is specific to the content of the course and that is not related to math or writing issues.

How can tutoring for specific courses help me?

Tutoring for specific courses offers students the opportunity to review lecture notes, discuss concepts presented in reading materials, learn problem-solving and critical thinking strategies, learn study and learning strategies, have conversations about course material, and get answers to questions.

Who are the tutors?

All of the SLC's tutors for specific courses are undergraduate and graduate students majoring in their respective content field who are selected based upon recommendations by teaching faculty.  Tutors are chosen based on academic excellence, content-specific knowledge, and a willingness to help others.  Upon being hired, tutors participate in a training seminar and, throughout the semester, are closely supervised.

Do I need an appointment to meet with a tutor?

studyYes and no. Some tutors have a set schedule of hours each week. These hours are posted on our website. Students do not need an appointment to work with tutors who have scheduled weekly hours. Other tutors, however, work by appointment. To schedule an appointment, you must complete a tutor request form, either in person or online.   Before requesting a tutor, be sure to check the online schedule to see if a tutor has weekly hours or works by appointment only. If the tutor works by appointment, then fill out the tutor request form. ( Please note that the tutor request form is not needed for math and writing tutoring.) Please click on the disciplines listed below to determine if you need to submit a tutor request form or not. If the tutor works by appointment, complete the tutor request form online or stop in room B10 Cooper Hall to talk with one of our staff members.
