The people coming to campus for the site visit are Gayle Fink, Assistant Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness at Bowie State University in Baltimore; she is the small team chairperson. Lisa Shibley, Assistant Vice President for Institutional Assessment and Planning, from Millersville University in Millersville, PA will be here. The third member of the team is Brockport’s liaison Sean McKittrick, Vice President, Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The fourth member is SUNY Liaison, Fred Hildebrand. Dr. Hildebrand will work to keep the team focused on what the Monitoring Report covered. This committee will meet with the team from 9:30-10:15, in Seymour Union, room 228. As many committee members as are able should plan to attend the meeting.
To prepare for the meeting please review the Monitoring Report, the Progress Report on the Strategic Plan, and the President’s Cabinet’s response to the Progress Report. The Accountability website has been populated with a lot of new information; please take some time to look at it. The information found there provides examples that we are using data to make decisions regarding priority needs.
People should understand the assessment system in general and the role of the different groups and the relationships. We made it very clear in the Monitoring Report that assessment at our institution is in the early stages of implementation. Most groups have not gone through a complete cycle or year (such as the Institutional Effectiveness and Accountability Committee, and the Budget & Resource Committee). The new assessment positions were advertised on our Human Resources website today; this indicates the importance we are placing on assessment at our institution.
The Middle States Small Team has asked for Key Performance Indicators; the 2012 information was sent to them. The Research, Analysis and Planning Office is working on the 2013 information. Additionally, they requested the 2012 Self-study, the Evaluating Team Report, the Monitoring Report, KPI’s and Departmental PPR Reports from 2011 forward. They requested a list of majors and the number of majors by program and by level (graduate & undergraduate).
If specific questions are asked the responses should be based on data from the reports. Just be familiar with your annual reports, PPR’s, and the systems we have in place.
