Lavender Ceremony

A Lavender Graduation or Lavender Ceremony is an informal graduation ceremony held by universities to honor and celebrate their LGBTQIA+ students and Allies. This event is not meant to replace commencement, but to compliment it. It is a time to celebrate the student's accomplishments and contributions to the university. The Lavender Ceremony was created by Dr. Ronni Sanlo, a Jewish Lesbian who held the first ceremony at the University of Michigan in 1995. The tradition has since spread to over 200 universities.
