Brockport to Host Week-Long Sports Camp for the Visually Impaired
Camp Abilities Brockport returns for its 22nd year; aims to get children with visual impairments active
BROCKPORT, NY—Children with visual impairments will get to ride bikes, run track, stand-up paddleboard, swim, go horseback riding, play baseball and more when they arrive at The College at Brockport next week. And some of them will be doing it for the very first time.
Camp Abilities Brockport, a week-long sports camp for children with visual impairments, returns to Brockport for its 22nd year June 25 through July 1. The camp, which is led by Brockport faculty, students and a number of volunteers, adapts sports to make them accessible for children with visual impairments.
This year golf will be introduced at Camp Abilities for the first time. Camp coaches will utilize tactile markings to allow the golfer to know where the club head is facing, and auditory cues to provide a directional cue to the hole.
Opening ceremonies take place on June 25, with the full camp slated to kick off on June 26. Morning activities take place between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. Afternoon activities take place between 2:50 pm and 5:15 pm.
