The Foundation of a Distinguished Career

BS in Communication, MS in Education, CAS in Educational Administration

Burnice Green valued his undergraduate experience at SUNY Brockport so much that he decided to return to continue his graduate experience. Twice.

“My time at Brockport was the best years of my life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” says Green, who earned a BS in Communication in 1992, an MS in Education in 1994 and a CAS in Educational Administration in 2001. “Brockport has given me the opportunity to achieve and be where I am now. I’m very grateful for that.”

Where Green is now is a pretty special place. He’s an assistant principal in the Rochester City School District. And in 2013, he was named New York State’s Assistant Principal of the Year. Green attributes much of his success to his Brockport education.

“Brockport gave me the forum to achieve what I wanted to achieve,” Green says. “And it gave me the support I needed to achieve what I wanted to achieve.”

Green spent the first 14 years of his career teaching sixth grade. Then he returned to Brockport to gain the certification he needed to enter administration. In his current position, Green says he’s always eager to recruit Brockport students.

“Anytime I see someone coming from Brockport, I know they are teachers that are well prepared,” Green says. “I know they know the pedagogy of teaching. I know they’ll be well-rounded in their experiences.”
