Admission Requirements

Students who are admitted to the college and declare Athletic Training as a major will be declared as “Athletic Training Intents” as freshmen. All “Athletic Training Intents” will complete BIO 221 Survey of Anatomy and Physiology and PES 385 Basic Athletic Training. In order to continue into professional portion of the major all students will apply during the fall semester of their sophomore year. This application process will involve a competitive admission process as the number of spots available in the program are limited by CAATE student/ instructor relationships. The application process is as follows:

Competitive Admission Procedures

The professional portion of the Athletic Training Major accepts students from a competitive selection process based upon the number of clinical experience spots available. In the event that the number of applicants exceeds the availability of openings for admission, the following criteria will be used as a selective admissions process. Applicants will be ranked based on the following:

  • Cumulative GPA (2.5 minimum/4.0)
  • Final grades in PES 385 and BIO 221 or BIO 321
  • Final grades in other Athletic Training related coursework:
    – PES 411, PEP 356, PES 325, PES 335
  • Personal Interview

Admission into the professional phase of the major will be based upon the ranking of the criteria listed above. The students with the highest rankings will be admitted into the major until all available spots have been filled. The number of students admitted into the major will vary by year based upon the number of graduating and returning students. The Athletic Training Program Director has the final authority on all admission decisions. The Athletic Training major reserves the right to not fill all available spots if the Athletic Training Staff does not feel that there are enough minimally qualified candidates in any given year.
