Further Recommendations

  1. Courses for the major in which students earn grades lower than a “C” must be repeated.
  2. Students majoring in Spanish are encouraged to:
  • Participate in Brockport’s study abroad program in Chile, Spain, Mexico, or in another SUNY program in a Spanish-speaking country.
  • Take classes or pursue another major/minor in a field related to desired career (for example, study another language in addition to Spanish, especially if candidates are seeking teacher certification) .

* Students who have prior study of Spanish in high school at any level should take the Foreign Language Placement Exam to most accurately determine their appropriate starting point. Information on how to register for a test can be found here. The following guidelines may also be used for placement if a test cannot be taken prior to registration (contact parada@brockport.edu or dwilkers@brockport.edu for a registration code):

  • SPN 111: students with 1-2 years of high school Spanish
  • SPN 112: students with 2-3 years of high school Spanish
  • SPN 211: students with 3-4 years of high school Spanish
