Additional Requirement:

Sport Management majors must also complete a second program of study, e.g., approved minor, major, concentration or specialty area. Such areas should be consistent of coherent body of knowledge supportive of the academic major of sport management. For example: business, communication, recreation, coaching, psychology, sociology, etc. A full-time semester studying abroad is encouraged and will also meet the second program of study requirement.

Prior to beginning The Internship in Sports Management (PEP 468) students must pass an exit interview . Exit interviews packets must be submitted through the electronic submission process by February 15th if planning on beginning an internship in the next spring semester, or October 15th if planning on beginning the internship in the following summer semester .

Major in Sport Management: Course of Study

Sport Management Major Core Classes 33 cr . + 6 departmental electives + 6 outside electives + second program of study (minor 18 credits, study abroad 12 credits, second major – credits will vary)

 

1. Sport Management Required in KSSPE Dept. 33 cr.

  • PEP 360 Modern Day Sport and Organizational Management 3 cr . (Includes practicum) Junior Status PEP 370 Sport Facility and Event Management 3 cr . (Includes practicum)
  • PES 441 Sport and Society 3 cr .
  • PES 460 Ethics in Sports Contests 3 cr .
  • PEP 355 Sport Marketing and Sponsorship 3 cr . (Co-requisite PEP 360) PEP 456 Sport Finance 3 cr . (Co-requisite PEP 360)
  • PEP 457 Sport Sales and Consumer Behavior 3 cr . (Includes practicum) (Pre-requisite PEP 360)
  • PEP 461 Research in Sport Management 3 cr . (Pre-requisite PEP 360 & PEP 355 & PEP 460/457 unless graduating senior)
  • Exit Interview – Students must register for, submit documents, and schedule for the exit interview by the 7th week of the semester prior to the PEP 468 Internship
  • PEP 468 Internship in Sport Management 9 cr. (off-campus, 98 days, full-time, non-remote) (pre-requisite: passing of all sport management courses and exit interview) (No additional classes may be ‘taken’ while enrolled in PEP 468, with the exception of one on-line course.)
