Before gaining admission to The College at Brockport, we invite you to visit the Arts for Children Interdisciplinary Program office to inquire about the program and visit the campus. You may direct your questions or set up an appointment with the program director at (585) 395-5137 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org. At the same time, please inquire about specific audition or portfolio requirements that may be needed for your specialty selection (art, dance, literary arts, music or theatre).
Admission to the Arts for Children major requires an informal interview with the Arts for Children program director. The intent of the interview is to assess and identify each student's creative inclination in the arts and to determine the direction (or specialty) of choice. A student should come prepared to discuss how he or she wishes to creatively engage with young learners. The interview also begins the advising process for those intending to enter the major.
Prospective majors must successfully complete prerequisite coursework (with a grade of "C" or better in each course) before officially gaining entry as an Arts for Children major.
For those planning to become classroom teachers, application to the teacher certification program through the Department of Education and Human Development is usually made at the end of the freshman year.
