NYSED has updated the Safety Nets for the Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST), Educating All Students (EAS), and certain redeveloped Content Specialty Tests (CST) exams.

Details can be found on the New York State Education Department (NYSED) website. Safety Net related questions can be directed to NYSED at firstname.lastname@example.org. Any exam requirement to be satisfied by one of the Safety Nets must be satisifed on or before June 30, 2017; the candidate then has until June 30, 2018 to complete all other certification requirements.

- NYSED, under emergency legislation, eliminated the requirement for candidates to take and pass the Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST), or use the Safety Net, in order to obtain an Initial classroom teaching certificate.
