The Department of Chemistry occasionally offers programs specifically designed for elementary education professionals, some of which may be used towards Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits.

The focus of these programs are physics and chemistry, generally using everyday items. Here are some programs that have been offered in the past
"Motion and Mechanical Energy" took place on Saturday, November 8, 1997.
"Supermarket Chemistry" was held on Saturday, April 25, 1998.
"Principles of Chemistry" was held on Saturday, November 16, 2002.
Participants were encouraged to envision ways each hands-on activity could be adapted for the grade level that they teach, to observe how common household materials can become science apparatus, to share ideas and expertise, and to reinforce their understanding of basic concepts in physical science. The workshops were offered free of charge as a service to area teachers who may find themselves faced with the daunting task of introducing their classes to scientific concepts while having little formal training in the sciences themselves.
