The College at Brockport is pleased to invite all undergraduate students from the School of Education, Health and Human Services, along with their families and guests, to the undergraduate morning Commencement ceremony, which will be held in the SERC Field House.
There is a four-ticket limit per student so we can be sure that all guests can be seated in the SERC Field House. You will not be able to claim tickets unless your online Application for Graduation is submitted by April 6, 2018. A limited amount of additional tickets may be distributed, depending on availability. See the tickets page for more information.
For guests without tickets, we are offering an on-campus alternate viewing location in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium in Tuttle North, where the ceremony will be streamed live. Or, for those with friends and family that are unable to come to campus, the ceremony will be streamed live on the College’s website. Your friends and family will be able to watch you graduate from anywhere in the world. Make sure you invite them to join us!
Students must assemble in the Tuttle Ice Arena by 8:30 am. Family members and guests should be seated in the SERC Field House by 9 am. Entry into the Field House is not permitted after 9:15 am, and all latecomers will be directed to the overflow viewing location. The student processional begins promptly at 9:30 am.
The Commencement address will be given by Congressman John Faso '74.
The name of each graduate will be read as they cross the stage and receive a diploma cover, compliments of the Brockport Alumni Association, Brockport Student Government, and the College. We request that all graduates, guests and family members remain seated for the entire ceremony. Graduates and guests are advised to make arrangements in advance regarding where to meet following the ceremony.
Arrive early and allow at least 45 minutes for entry into the SERC Field House as well as seating prior to the start of the ceremony. Bleacher and floor seating is available in the Field House. For your safety, flat shoes are recommended.

Eligibility and Requirements for Graduation
If you plan on attending a Commencement ceremony in May 2018, the Application for Graduation should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than April 6, 2018, for your name to appear in the Commencement program and to be eligible to claim guest tickets to the ceremony. If you completed your degree in December 2017 or January 2018, or if you will be completing your degree requirements in May 2018, August 2018, or December 2018, you must complete the Application for Graduation online through the Campus Information System (Web Banner).
If you have questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Diplomas and a Commencement program will be mailed to graduates in late summer once all graduation requirements are verified and confirmed. Remember, participation in the Commencement ceremony and listing in the program does not constitute official graduation or conferral of degree.
For a student's name to appear in the 2018 Commencement program with Latin honors, the student must have earned at least a 3.40 cumulative institutional GPA by the end of January 2018 and must be expected to have completed (by Commencement) a minimum of 48 credits taken at The College at Brockport.
The Latin honors designations indicated in the program do not actually confer Latin honors, but do entitle the student to wear special tassels on the cap: gold for summa cum laude, green and gold for magna cum laude, and green and black for cum laude. The official award of Latin honors is based the student's final course record and cumulative institutional GPA. When earned, Latin honors will be officially noted on the student's diploma and the College transcript.
Green Caps, Gowns, and Tassels
All ceremony participants must wear The College at Brockport’s green Commencement gowns, caps, and tassels. They may be purchased at the Barnes & Noble College Bookstore in Seymour College Union beginning March 28. No advance order is necessary, as sizes are assigned by height. Undergraduate sets of cap, gown and tassel are $53.98.
A reception for the new alumni, their families, guests, faculty, and staff will be held following the ceremony, from 11 am to noon. The reception will be held in Tuttle North gymnasiums 205 and 206. This is a great opportunity for graduates, their families, and guests to meet and greet the faculty and staff. Please join us as we celebrate your success.
Announcements and Gifts
Announcements, commemorative items, and gifts are available for sale at the Bookstore. The store will be open Friday, May 11, 8:30 am – 6 pm, and Saturday, May 12, 8:30 am – 4 pm. For more information, call the Bookstore at (585) 395-2554.
Photographs of the Graduates
Island Photography takes photographs of the graduates as they walk across the stage. Proofs and purchase information will be mailed to each graduate's home address in the summer.
Island Photography also provides reader cards for use during the ceremony as well as identification cards following the ceremony. Graduates, be sure to fill out your reader card with correct phonetic spelling. Also, be sure to provide the permanent address of where you will be residing after Commencement for accurate delivery of your photos.
Registering with Island Photography provides the information they need to deliver your graduation proofs to you in a timely manner. Giving them an accurate mailing address and email address will allow them to get your proofs to you on the first try.
Directions and Parking
Please allow for extra travel time and plan your route accordingly, as there is extensive construction on Route 531 and Route 31 between Spencerport and Brockport.
Since traffic delays are unavoidable, guests should plan to arrive early and allow extra time to get seated in the Field House.
Plan to enter the campus via Commencement Drive (off Route 31).
There will be limited handicapped parking available in Lot V for cars with official handicap identification.
Parking is available in any campus lot, except Lot U. For easier exiting after the ceremony, you may wish to park in the lots along Residence Drive. No parking permit is required.
SERC Access and Seating for Mobility Impaired Attendees
Mobility impaired guests can be dropped off in the loop outside the SERC main entrance. The loop will close at the end of the ceremony and reopen once the roadway is cleared. Guests may use the main entrance to enter the SERC Field House. Drivers can park in lots V or V-1. There will be limited handicapped parking available in lot V for cars with official handicap identification.
Plan to arrive early for the best seating availability. For guests with wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility impairments that are unable to navigate the bleachers, ground-level seating will be available. This seating is limited, and we ask that our mobility impaired guests choose one family member to accompany them in the reserved seating. This seating is first come, first served.
Interpreting Services for the Deaf
Interpreting services will be provided at the ceremony. Two large video screens on either side of the stage will enhance your ceremony viewing.
Deaf students working with the Office for Students with Disabilities may contact the office at (585) 395-5409 regarding specific arrangements. Deaf faculty, staff, and visitors who need consultation regarding more specific interpreting accommodations may contact the Office of Affirmative Action at (585) 395-2109.
First Destination Survey
The College at Brockport, like all higher education institutions, is required to report on employment and educational outcomes for new graduates. We will ask you to complete a short survey when you pick up your cap and gown. We will follow up with you again in the fall with a request to complete the First Destination Survey. Completing the survey will only take a few moments, and knowing what our graduates are doing is critical for the College. We use aggregate survey responses to provide required information to governmental organizations and accrediting bodies. We also use the information to continue to improve our programmatic offerings as well as to support current students and alumni in pursuing their career goals. First Destination Survey results are available online. Please take a few minutes to respond when you are contacted. If you have any questions, please contact Career Services at email@example.com. Thank you.
