Post Master's Certificate of Advanced Study School Counselor Programs CACREP Equivalent Policy

The department offers two CAS Programs for school counselors. These Programs were developed to provide graduates of master’s level counseling programs who may be seeking certification or additional coursework in School Counseling.

The department affirms CACREP’s belief that its Standards for Accreditation represent entry-level preparation criteria for School Counseling. The department recognizes that some graduates of master's level counseling programs may have graduated from a non-CACREP accredited program or with a degree with less than 48 credit hours. Students in those situations will have their credentials reviewed by the CAS Coordinator. As part of one of the departments CAS Programs in School Counseling, students will be required to complete the necessary course work to meet the CACREP entry-level preparation criteria for a master's degree in School Counseling.

If you have any questions, please contact Claudette Brown-Smythe, Coordinator of the Post Masters CAS Programs at (585) 395-5492.
