2018-2019 Concert Performances and Events

Tickets may be purchased online at brockportarts.universitytickets.com or at the Tower Fine Arts Center Box Office. Box Office hours are Mondays - Fridays from 9:30 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm, or call (585) 395-ARTS. Credit card reservations and remaining tickets will be available at the Hartwell Box Office one hour prior to scheduled performance times.

Hartwell Dance Theater features reserved seating for all performances. Please arrive early to ensure being seated by the indicated curtain time. Seating in all other venues will be by general admission.

Ticket prices: $17, $12 for senior citizens, Brockport Alumni, faculty and staff, or $9 for students, unless otherwise noted. There will be a $5 Community Preview for most events. No programs or attendance cards will be distributed at these performances, which will not qualify for student attendance.

Trisha Brown Dance Company

Trisha Brown Dance Company is a post-modern dance company dedicated to the performance and preservation of the work of Founding Artistic Director and Choreographer, Trisha Brown. After presenting a restaging of Brown’s “Set and Reset” in last season’s Danscore concert, the department is presenting an entire concert to her thrilling work.

Inspiration can strike our undergraduate and graduate choreographers in any number of ways, be it current events, their personal lives, or even a piece of music they have heard. These concerts are always compelling for our audiences.

According to City, the Department of Dance’s faculty wields “influence [that] ripples far outside Rochester’s borders.” Their choreography can be dynamic, daring and dramatic, leaving audiences energized and enthralled.

New Dancers Showcase

The department’s new dance majors make works which are set on their fellow students. A terrific way to experience choreographic talent as it emerges.

MFA Thesis Concert

The graduate dance program at Brockport merges studio-centered dance technique and choreography with dance education, aesthetics, and production. These studies balance the physical with the conceptual; this concert is the creative capstone for our graduate students.

The ACDA Gala Performance will present the finest choreographic works of those submitted for adjudication at the American College Dance Association Northeastern Regional conference.

Post-performance discussions follow the Thursday and Saturday evening performances.

How does a choreographer adapt their initial vision to their dancers? Not to mention also having to make a dance that will be seen on three sides, in the department’s unique Strasser Studio. Interactions between choreographers and dancers—and space—are explored in talkbacks following the Thursday and Saturday concerts.

It may seem like an overstatement, but Sankofa is simply not-to-be missed. Artistic director Jenise Akilah Anthony and musical director Khalid Abdul N’Faly Saleem energize the sell-out crowds as they experience Afro-Caribbean culture through dance, music, lights, color, and unadulterated joy!
