Jennifer is excited to be joining the faculty at the College of Brockport SUNY as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dance. Her research investigates dance community engagement, collaboration, and the presence of the individual in dance. Jennifer has been on faculty at the University of Utah, the University of Iowa, the University of Iowa Youth Ballet, Burklyn Ballet Theater as the Intermediate Director, Rockford Dance Company, The Family Museum in Bettendorf, IA, the Academy of Performing Arts in Newton, KS, Ballet Quad Cities, City Center School of the Arts, and Omaha Theater Company for Young People. She specializes in ballet, contemporary technique, improvisation, creative process, teaching methods, and wellness practices.
Jennifer’s choreographic work bridges theory and practice. She is fueled by the presence and power of the individual. Her work has been presented in Panama City (Panama), Salt Lake City (UT), Johnson (VT), Iowa City (IA), Rockford (IL), and Dubuque (IA). In 2011, Jennifer choreographed her own full-length version of The Nutcracker for Rockford Dance Company. She continues to expand her choreographic voice with narratives such as Peter Pan, The Hunting of the Snark, and Thumbelina as well as collaborative works like Tethered among others. As a budding scholar, Jennifer recently presented at the RAD’s 21st Century: Practice and Innovation conference in Sydney, Australia and Corps de Ballet International’s conference in Provo, Utah.
Jennifer has twice traveled to Les Ceyes, Haiti and twice to Panama City, Panama, to conduct movement research with orphans and local inhabitants. Her research uses movement exploration as a tool for building agency and to communicate through language barriers. Jennifer is passionate about developing creative problem solving skills via movement to assist in the development of personal survival skills.
Jennifer holds an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa where she was an Iowa Arts Fellow and was a recipient of the Caroline H. Newhouse Scholarship. She was also a Graduate Teaching Assistant. Jennifer additionally holds a certificate in Yoga. Jennifer has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, graduating Summa Cum Laude with honors.
Jennifer began her dance training at Ballet Omaha and has performed internationally at the Shizuoka Ballet Festival in Japan. She joined the ranks of Omaha Theater Company’s professional company and danced with them for three seasons while simultaneously completing her BA in mathematics. Jennifer danced many lead roles and was featured in many works in Omaha and with Ballet Quad Cities. She danced with Ballet Quad Cities for six seasons. Jennifer was co-director of Ballet Quad Cities II, the youth performing group. She was instrumental in developing community outreach; such as the after school program Dance For Life. After completing her MFA, Jennifer then danced with Ballet Nebraska and performed across the country as a freelance artist.
