Introduction of Recipient By Dean Daniel Goebel

I am proud to introduce Rachel Kelley as the School of Business & Management Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient.

Rachel came to Brockport as a transfer student in spring 2019. She is an accounting major who has earned a 3.98 overall GPA and has been on the President’s List three out of four semesters. One of Rachel’s faculty nominators said, “If I had a Hall of Fame to recognize my exceptional students, Rachel would be a member.”

When I think of students with professional promise, Rachel is at the top of the list. She has been accepted to Brockport’s MS in Accounting program for fall 2021. By that time, she will have completed four internships in total with three different employers. Rarely do we see a student with the quality and variety of internships that Rachel has had along with the unwavering dedication to pursue them.

During tax season, Rachel worked 30 to 40 hours a week while juggling a full-time course load. In a summer internship at a local company, she worked extensively with various accounting software programs. Rachel’s contribution to the company led her supervisor to comment on the “amazing success” they had with her. To enhance her work experience even more, Rachel interviewed for and landed a very competitive summer 2021 internship at Deloitte, which is a Big Four accounting firm attracting candidates from all over the world. Clearly, Rachel’s knowledge, experience, and professional presence add to SUNY Brockport’s reputation for delivering quality talent to our employer partners.

In the hours that Rachel is not working in or outside the classroom, she tutors other students in both accounting and economics courses. Rachel also is on the executive board of the Accounting Society, one of the School of Business and Management’s most active student-led clubs.

In her essay, Rachel indicated “the decision that I made at the beginning of 2019 to transfer to Brockport has changed my life and set me up for success in my future career.” We in the School have no doubt that Rachel will find success in her chosen profession and be an active and engaged alumnus. Please join me in congratulating Rachel Kelley.
