Camp Abilities Brockport is a one-week developmental sports camp for children and teens who are blind, visually impaired, and deafblind. The camp is set up to provide a one-on-one instructional situation for each person, which is often on the contrary to other camps designed for people with vision and hearing disabilities.
The Camp Abilities model has been adopted across the country and even internationally. The camp also provides us with a unique opportunity to conduct research into ways to improve the lives of people with visual impairments. In the communal setting of camp, we are able to observe and test new methods that have gone on to make marked differences in campers' quality of life and added to the body of knowledge in the field.
Camp Abilities is directed by Dr. Lauren Lieberman as well as an assistant director, Tiffany Mitrakos, and two graduate assistants, Lily Jagodzinski and Kristi Lane. For more information, please see the Camp Abilities Staff page.
