ISS: Why did you choose to study at Brockport?
Erwin: I was looking for a SUNY campus that was inexpensive, yet, offered a good education along with opportunities to get a scholarship. SUNY- Brockport offers a great education and offered me a scholarship as well.
ISS: What has been your most memorable experience while at Brockport?
Erwin: The day when the blizzard happened. I come from a tropical country. I have never seen snow before. It snowed so much that the college closed, and that was the first time in 26 years!
ISS: What are your classes like? Which one is your favorite?
Erwin: Classes are very interactive. My favorite has to be Abnormal Psychology. This course focuses on psychological dysfunctions.
ISS: How does school here differ from that in your home country?
Erwin: Classes here encourage interaction between students and the professor. We are also required to take full ownership of our education. The professors are also dedicated to what they do and we can see it through their eyes as they deliver a lecture.
ISS: Do you live on campus or off campus? What has living here in Brockport been like?
Erwin: I live on campus. One word is enough to describe this: Convenience. Classes are never more than a 10-minute walk away. The nearest dining hall is right across from my building. I also get to meet new people of various interests and backgrounds!
ISS: Prior to coming to school, what did you do to prepare for life in the United States?
Erwin: I asked for advice from friends who completed their studies in the United States. They've advised me on various points from budgeting, attitudes to maintain, culture and even the clothes I needed to get in preparing for the winter!
ISS: What advice would you give to international student who was thinking about attending Brockport?
Erwin: Get connected with the staff from International Student Services. They are friendly and are willing to help you. They can give you all of the information you need to enroll in the college- all you have to do is ask!
ISS: What do you plan to do after graduation?
Erwin: I plan to do a Master's degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at SUNY Brockport.
