ISS: Why did you choose to study at Brockport?

Wataru: First, I like to communicate with local people to improve my English. There are not many Japanese people here, so I am not forced to speak my first language and can practice English more.
Second, I wanted to be a radio DJ and there is great opportunity here in Brockport. I actually currently work at the local radio station, "89.1 the point".

ISS: What are your classes like? Which one is your favorite?

Wataru: In class, I get to communicate a lot with others and it is so much fun. My favorite class is Communications. The professors are great and I really like the classes offered.

ISS: How does school here differ from that in your home country?

Wataru: At SUNY Brockport, people raise their hands on their own during class. Many students are willing to participate in class discussions.

ISS: Are you involved in any clubs, organizations or sports teams? What are those experiences like?

Wataru: Brockport Men's Club Soccer; I get along with all the people in the soccer club because they are very nice, friendly and helpful. We have similar personalities so we hang out a lot outside of the club a well.

Radio Station, 89.1 The Point; This has been a good opportunity for me because I want to be a radio DJ and like radio. Even if you are not interested specifically in radio, it is still a good opportunity to have work experience and the radio station may be one place to do that.

ISS: Do you live on campus or off campus? What has living here in Brockport been like?

Wataru: I live off campus. The atmosphere of Brockport is nice, slow, and calm.

ISS: What advice would you give to international student who was thinking about attending Brockport?

Wataru: As an international student you have great opportunities here outside of class work so do not hesitate to do something outside of class. You will get great experiences from the work outside of class. Also, you should hang out with local people here, so that you can improve your English.

ISS: What do you plan to do after graduation?

Wataru: I am thinking to get a job with OPT. I want to be a radio DJ sometime in the future.
