In June 1985, the State University of New York (SUNY) Board of Trustees passed a resolution making health insurance mandatory for all international students enrolled at a SUNY campus.

This is also mandatory for all American students enrolled at SUNY campuses as well as for any students traveling abroad on approved SUNY academic programs and exchanges. Health insurance provides medical coverage to individuals up to a certain standard. This is necessary in case of illness, accidents or even just routine doctor's visits.
All international students with F-1 or J-1 Student Visa categories and other non-immigrant visa categories are required to enroll in this SUNY- mandatory policy.
Detailed information regarding GeoBlue coverage can be viewed here.
Students that want to request an insurance waiver using another insurance provider may do so online.
Please review the required insurance benefits below before completing the online waiver request:
Students have 30 days from the first day of classes each semester to complete the online waiver. After 30 days, the GeoBlue insurance charge will remain on the student’s bill and waivers will not be accepted.
International scholars with J-1 exchange/visitor, researcher, and professor visa categories are also required to enroll in this policy. Please email the Office of International Student Services with any questions, or call (585) 395-2119.
Please note: If you or your spouse is pregnant and traveling to Brockport, please consult the Office of International Student Services about insurance coverage before you arrive in the United States. It is likely that the cost of delivery and pre/post-natal care will not be covered by the mandated insurance plan.
