How and why did you decide to apply for The College at Brockport MPA program?
I completed my Masters in Social Work in 2013 and worked for a little over a year before I decided to apply for the MPA program. I felt that this degree coupled with my MSW would adequately prepare me for management in the healthcare industry. I have always had a passion for effective leadership and hoped that this degree would equip me with the necessary skills to lead in healthcare organizations.
What have you enjoyed most about the program so far?
I have really enjoyed the quality of teaching and the students who come from all walks of life. I think this enriches the classroom experience and allows for people to learn from each other. While I haven't been able to participate in any of the social events, I think it's great that the department fosters a culture of social engagement between both students and professors.
What does your job entail?
I work in a pediatric practice and work with children and parents to provide support and resources that can address barriers to the wellbeing of the child. I also do comprehensive and risk assessments to ensure that the child and parents are healthy physically emotionally and socially. Additionally, I participate in committees and other opportunities where social workers can contribute to the overall progression of URMC
What are your future goals?
I want to continue to work in healthcare serve the community in and out of my profession. I hope to work in management providing guidance and leadership in a healthcare organization to ensure progression, innovation, and social responsibility.
