How and why did you decide to apply for The College at Brockport MPA program?

There were quite a number of reasons why I chose Brockport. When I was first hired by the College, I was in the process of getting ready to travel to Tanzania to work with a music education non-profit started by a friend. I researched some of the available courses at Brockport and thought it was something I would enjoy and be successful in. So few college music programs prepare their students to handle the administrative or business side of the arts, yet it’s such an important skill set! As I’ve accumulated responsibilities in the music program, I realized that getting this degree was something I really needed to do.

What have you enjoyed most about the program so far?

I love that the faculty members are so approachable, and how many of the courses ask us to reflect on our own experiences to make concepts more concrete.

What does your job entail?

I conduct the Brockport College-Community Orchestra and Brockport Concert Band, as well as teaching a handful of music courses. I’m also responsible for scheduling, promoting & publicity, and organizing all of the department’s ensembles and concerts. In addition, I’ll be starting my fifth season coaching Brockport’s diving team.

What are your future goals?

I plan to continue working in Brockport’s Music Studies program, advancing my career in an administrative capacity.
