How and why did you decide to apply for The College at Brockport MPA program?
When I graduated high school I obtained my Associates degree from MCC in Criminal Justice. After completing the degree I was hired as a police officer and took a break from school. After September 11, 2001,I left the police department and joined the U.S. Army. After completing my enlistment I wanted to maximize the use of my school benefit from the G.I. Bill and went back to school and obtained my Bachelor’s degree. I was promoted to my current position in 2013 and this program was recommended by a coworker who had just finished. With my new administrative responsibilities I thought it would be a good fit.
What have you enjoyed most about the program so far?
I have found that the classes have been relevant to my position and have helped enhance my performance. The program is well balanced in terms of performance areas and administrative growth. It has also offered an opportunity to network with people in different areas of public service.
What does your job entail?
I am responsible for the Administrative Bureau of our agency. This includes the records section, criminal investigation section, community services, training and property clerk. It also involves the development of policies, procedures and training plans. I am also the department public information officer.
What are your future goals?
I plan to continue working to develop my skills as an administrator for the Town of Webster and would ultimately like to seek a position as the head of a public service agency.
