How and why did you decide to apply for The College at Brockport MPA program?

As my undergraduate education at Brockport was coming to a close, I started looking for a graduate program that was nearby, affordable, and most importantly, allowed me to prepare myself for a career where I could help people and bring about social change. The MPA Program at Brockport seemed like a perfect fit, and now that I am roughly halfway through the program, I can say with certainty that it was the right choice for me.

What have you enjoyed most about the program so far?

So far, I have really enjoyed the professors and their unique personalities. It is always fun and exciting to come to class and know that the people educating you are inspired and experienced. I also enjoy the students that I’ve gotten to know, and seeing how the education I’m receiving is transferrable even to my current job.

What does your job entail?

As an AmeriCorps member at the Gillam-Grant, I assist with programming, planning, day-to-day operations of a non-profit, and youth development. This essentially means wearing many hats and being prepared for almost anything in a typical day, from grant writing to ordering supplies to helping run preschool or before/after school programs.

What are your future goals?

After graduation, I would like to stay in the Rochester area, preferably working for an organization that addresses education, youth, or poverty.
