All business majors are encouraged to complete at least one internship prior to graduation. In fact, 94 percent of newly hired graduates participated in an internship or co-op prior to graduation (NACE Experiential Education survey). The Center for Student Success can answer your specific questions and get you started.

Credit vs. Non-Credit and Paid vs. Unpaid

Determine whether you want to do an internship for credit, and if so, whether you need upper-level business credit or general elective credit. If the internship is unpaid, you may be able to arrange part-time hours. Employers are impressed with students who are willing to make the necessary sacrifices to complete an internship.

The Business Internship Program for Academic Credit

ACC 498 and BUS 498 internship credit count as an upper-level business elective for either three or six credits. To earn three credits, interns work a minimum of 120 hours and work 240 hours to earn six credits. The internship can be completed in either semester or summer break.

ACC 498 and BUS 498 are open to all juniors and seniors majoring in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or International Business. Students must have an overall 2.75 GPA and a 2.75 GPA in the major. Students can complete a maximum of two internship experiences for credit through the School of Business. Note, students may not use the same experience twice.

Application Process

Students interested in earning ACC 498 or BUS 498 credit should complete an Internship Application and Company Sponsor Form, create or update a resume and submit all materials to the School of Business and Management office in Hartwell 119. Once you have been approved, you will be registered for ACC 498 or BUS 498.
