Checklist for Enrolling Transfer Students


New Transfer Student Checklist

There are requirements, deadlines and important information you need to review and respond to prior to the start of your first semester.

Upon receipt of deposit — the earlier you pay your deposit, the earlier you can register for classes, according to the registration schedule.

  • You will be contacted by the Office of Academic Advisement regarding registration for your fall 2016 classes.
  • The department of your desired major will contact you for advisement and registration for the upcoming fall 2016 semester approximately 2 weeks after the receipt of the deposit and your initial contact from the Office of Academic Advisement.  
  • Following your advisement session, your faculty advisor will provide you with an Advisement Key Number which will enable you to go online and register for classes.
  • Register for classes according to The College at Brockport registration schedule .
  • Students paying their deposit after the regular registration period has ended will still be contacted by the department approximately 2 weeks after the receipt of your deposit. You will be able to register after your advisement appointment.
  • Provide immunization records to the College's health center.
  • Log on to Web Banner to:
    • View your Degree Audit 
    • Register for your classes after being advised by the faculty
    • Affirm Enrollment and Accept Financial Responsibility
    • Accept Student Code of Conduct (available the day following course registration.)
    • Log into Web Banner to accept any “offered” financial aid funding included in your financial aid package

Spring

  • Complete Online Orientation Modules  (mandatory)
    Available soon through Blackboard

    Please note: New transfer students will be charged a transfer orientation fee of $75 (placed on student bill.) The fee is used to offset expenses associated with the College's registration and orientation activities for new transfer students. It is assessed to all students who enter as transfers with 24 or more credits and covers the cost of the first semester advisement, registration and all orientation events during and before the first semester. Students who do not attend all orientation events are still assessed the fee.
  • Register for the Transfer Academic Planning Seminar (TAPS)
  • For housing information visit: Residential Life/Learning Communities
  • Health Insurance Policy
  • Provide Student Health Information (required for Student-Athletes, highly recommended for all other students). 
  • Final college transcripts and high school transcripts (if necessary).  Forward official transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Join  myBROCKPORT .

 Summer

  • Complete Online Orientation Modules (mandatory)

 August

Make sure the following are complete before arriving on campus:

  • Complete Online Orientation Modules  (mandatory)
    Access through Blackboard
    • Please note: New transfer students will be charged a transfer orientation fee of $75 (placed on student bill.) The fee is used to offset expenses associated with the College's registration and orientation activities for new transfer students. It is assessed to all students who enter as transfers with 24 or more credits and covers the cost of the first semester advisement, registration and all orientation events during and before the first semester. Students who do not attend all orientation events are still assessed the fee.
  • RSVP to attend the New Transfer Student Welcome.  Date TBA
    The College will welcome new students before classes begin. New transfer students will have an opportunity to meet Transfer Peer Mentors, obtain student ID, interact with other new transfer students as well as learn more about the academic expectations and resources available. Official invitation will be sent in August. RSVP required at transfer@brockport.edu or (585) 395-5397.

  • Health Insurance Policy
  • Provide Student Health Information (required for Student-Athletes, highly recommended for all other students). 
  • Final college transcripts and high school transcripts (if necessary). Forward official transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Consider opening an Easy Money account.
  • Join myBrockport.
  • Obtain Eagle One Student ID Card
  • Purchase  Parking Permit
  • Purchase textbooks .
  • Register for  Disability Services  (if applicable).
  • Provide  immunization records
  • Register for the Transfer Academic Planning Seminar (TAPS)
  • Register for the 7th Annual Spring Saturday of Service. The College offers community service opportunities that support its students as they improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.
  • Help give a sick child a reason to smile… one pillowcase at a time as we work with the  ConKerr Cancer Organization making pillowcases for children with terminal illnesses. (On-campus project)
    • Partner with Phi Sigma Sigma to cut and tie new fleece blankets to be donated to the Bivona Child Advocacy Center of Rochester. (On-campus project)S-3 provides an opportunity for new incoming students to forge bonds with each other, as well as other members of the community. This year we are offering the following opportunities to make an impact on our community:
    • No materials are required, just an open heart and a willingness to give back. These S-3 will take place on Saturday, January 23, 2016 in the Seymour College Union Gallery from 1:30pm – 4:00pm (After Transfer Orientation & Class Photo).

    Complete your Think About It training:
    All new transfer students are required to complete an online educational program called--Think About It. This program covers a wide range of topics from stress management, relationships (healthy vs. unhealthy), alcohol and other drugs and also covers the College’s policies and resources we have for you at the College.
