Dear SUNY Brockport Community:
Effective immediately, SUNY has adopted the latest Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidance to ease outdoor mask requirements for vaccinated individuals. Except in certain crowded settings and venues, individuals who are fully vaccinated (two weeks following the final dose of any vaccine regimen) may now gather or conduct activities outdoors without wearing a mask.
The continued vaccination rollout offers significant promise in our efforts to combat COVID-19. We were proud to be able to offer the Pfizer vaccine to our community earlier this month.
New York State, following CDC recommendations, placed distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine on pause on April 13 while a thorough safety review took place. Following this review, the CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration lifted this pause, saying that the use of the vaccine should resume and is recommended for people 18 years of age or older.
As a result, we will now be able to offer the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine to our community. Our on-campus clinic will take place on May 6 from 9 am - 4 pm in the Tuttle North Ice Arena. The clinic will be open for walk-in vaccinations on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that there is a required 15 minute observation period following each vaccination.
We are making progress, but please remember that the pandemic is not yet over. While the use of face coverings outdoors is no longer required for vaccinated individuals, we know that face coverings remain highly effective in stopping the spread of COVID-19 — especially indoors and whenever you’re in a crowd. We are required to continue wearing face coverings in these situations.
Thank you for your continue patience and vigilance as we work through this unprecedented year. Best wishes for a safe and successful conclusion to the spring semester.
