Dear Brockport Community:
Thank you all for the tremendous work you’ve done to Protect the Nest throughout this academic year. After receiving guidance from SUNY, we’re able to share the framework for how we plan to celebrate the Class of 2021.
New York State event capacity restrictions are still in place — meaning we are unable to celebrate Commencement in the traditional format. But I am happy to announce that we are still offering opportunities to celebrate our graduates in person.
The formal part of our traditional Commencement ceremony will take place virtually through a YouTube Live event on Saturday, May 22. This ceremony will include traditional speeches and the conferral of an honorary degree. But we’re also excited to be able to offer a series of modified Commencement celebrations during the week of May 17, which are open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are completing their degrees. Our graduates will be able to register to attend the ceremony of their choice. Each event will feature brief remarks, followed by the conferral of degrees, and an opportunity for each graduate to receive their diploma cover, have their name read, walk across the stage, and have their photo taken.
At this time, due to various New York State COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to allow guests. However, we do plan to live stream each of these modified ceremonies on our website, allowing family and friends the opportunity to witness this special moment.
Many more details, including how to register, will be shared in the near future. We appreciate your continued patience, and we are eager to celebrate the Class of 2021 next month.
