ADP Event: Dr. Lisa Wade Lecture on the American Hookup Culture on Thurs., April 6, 7 pm in LAB, McCue Aud.
Lisa Wade, PhD, author of American Hookup: The New Culture of Sex on Campus will be on campus to lecture on her research of the Hookup Culture, Thurs., April 6, 2017, 7 pm in LAB McCue Auditorium. Free Books to the first 100 attendees.
Lisa Wade, PHD, is a professor at Occidental College and accomplished scholar and award-winning teacher with degrees in philosophy, human sexuality, and sociology. Lisa Wade looks past the shock-value news reports, moralizing op-eds, and party-saturated Hollywood movies to uncover what hookup culture means to college students, how it works, and what it reveals about privilege, power, and the future of sexuality in America.
“Hookup” has become a buzzword, a misleading concept for students, parents and educators alike—one that confuses more than explains the nuances of this complex and pervasive trend. Wade analyzes its cultural roots: the evolution of courtship, our unrealized feminist revolution, America’s new business model of higher education, and the increasingly tenuous economic futures faced by young people.
This event is sponsored and funded by a grant from the American Democracy Project. The book purchase and distribution to the first 100 attendees was made possible by Dr. Marion Schrank, a former Vice-President of Student Affairs, generous gift through the Advancement Office.
Sponsoring departments are: Center for Women & Gender Advisory Board, Women and Gender Studies Program, Sociology Department, Title IX Compliance Program, Prevention & Outreach Services and Center for Select Respect and Women and Gender. One of many events during Brockport's Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
