2018 Biennial Seneca Falls Dialogues Call for Proposals due April 30: Keynote, KaeLyn Rich
Women and Gender Studies (WMS) is one of several Rochester-area college programs leading the Sixth Biennial Seneca Falls Dialogues (SFD): “Race and Intersecting Feminist Futures,” October 19-21, 2018, Gould Hotel, Seneca Falls, NY.
The 2018 SFD Keynote and Women's Institute for Leadership and Learning (WILL) recipient is writer, speaker, and rad activist KaeLyn Rich, adjunct faculty in Women and Gender Studies and Assistant Advocacy Director for Chapters of the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU), the New York affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). KaeLyn is featured in "Her Voice Carries, Prelude" on display at the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery (MAG).
The Biennial Dialogues are a collaborative effort to reinvigorate Seneca Falls as a site of feminist activism and intellectual exchange. We invite students, activists, community members, artists, and educators to propose group-led sessions that involve active audience participation and focused discussion. Proposals should indicate how organizers will present information, pose questions, and facilitate activities and conversation. Dialogues are welcome to address the themes listed here. While this list is not exhaustive, we are looking for sessions that integrate the conference theme of race into the proposal. A focus on pedagogy is valued but not essential.
• Intersectional Resistance and Activism
• Black Lives Matter
• Immigration, Refugees, and Border-Crossing
• Indigenous Sovereignty and Activism
• Queering Racial Justice
• Race and the Legacy of Seneca Falls
• Digital Spaces
• Popular Culture and Representations
• Feminism, Race, and the Arts
• Women of Color on the Margin of Traditional Feminist Movements
• Constructions of Disability
Proposal Deadline: April 30, 2018.
Conference participants will be invited to submit essay versions of their dialogues for inclusion in the on-line Seneca Falls Dialogues Journal. See links below for additional information about the SFD and the SFD Journal. The call for proposals and proposal submission link are accessible via the Seneca Falls Dialogues website linked below.
