Dr. George T. Sipos to Chair Panel and Present at the Association for Asian Studies Conference

Senior International Officer, Dr. George T. Sipos, will chair and present in the panel "Coerced Beliefs and Willing Conversions: Tenko Literature in Pre- and Postwar Japan"

Senior International Officer, Dr. George T. Sipos, will chair and present in the panel "Coerced Beliefs and Willing Conversions: Tenko Literature in Pre- and Postwar Japan" at the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) annual conference, to take place between March 22 and 25, in Washington, DC. Dr. Sipos is joined by co-panelists Dr. James Dorsey from Dartmouth College, and Dr. Shigemi Nakagawa from Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan. The debate on Japan's pre- and postwar tenko (Ideological conversion) is more than relevant in today's world as it addresses acts of resistance through literature in the face of modern democratic societies turning to authoritarianism.

The AAS is the largest Asian studies scholarly organization in North America, and its conference gathers Asia scholars from all over the world.
