Food Service Assistant Job Description

The Food Service Assistant position requires an understanding of the mission, vision, and values of BCDC and the day to day routine of the kitchen facility. The Assistant must have knowledge of and comply with the state sanitary code of the health department regulations. The Assistant must also be familiar with the regulations of CACFP regarding the preparation and the storing of food. The Assistant reports directly to the Food Service Manager.

The position pays $10.70 / hour and is scheduled to work Monday-Friday, 9 am – 1 pm.

Personal Qualities

This position requires a dedicated individual who is flexible and accepts direction. The Assistant must be dependable, punctual, and willing to accept change in job duties. This position requires organizational skills and some heavy lifting, up to fifty pounds.

Description of Responsibilities

Distribute meals to classrooms.

Responsible for washing carts, dishes, pots, and utensils after meals.

De-lime dishwasher as needed.

Communicate with Food Service Manager frequently to ensure smooth operation of the kitchen.

Store and date food items after delivery

Respect confidentiality of families, children, and co-workers.

Perform other duties assigned by the Food Service Manager.

Participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings

Maintain a professional image

Duties to complete ONLY when the Food Service Manager is off:

Responsible for the preparation of food using guidelines established by CACFP (New York State Department of Health)

Prepare food according to set menus.

Store food appropriately before and after cooking as well as properly noting their delivery when needed.

Clean and sanitize counters, sink, refrigerators, stove, and cupboards daily.
