The Department of Public Health and Health Education at The College at Brockport, State University of New York invites applications for a full-time, 10 month Lecturer position in Public and Community Health.

Major Responsibilities

• Teach a 4/4 course load in health education (methods), and health content which include, but are not limited to: Health Education Methods (undergraduate), Foundations of Health Education, Introduction to Public Health, Applied Biostatistics, Nutrition, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Research Methods in Health.

• Engage in student advisement.

• Serve on committees at the departmental, school and college levels.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in school, community, or public health education, or related discipline (e.g. health psychology, health promotion, public health) by the time of appointment from a college or university recognized and accredited by the U.S. Department of Education; ability to teach health education methods and health content courses; and, demonstrated potential for increasing the diversity of the curriculum, student body or faculty through teaching/mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications

College teaching experience; certified or Master Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES or MCHES) or health education teacher certification; previous teaching experience preferred in both land based and online courses; familiarity with CEPH, NCHEC, SHAPE, CAEP, NYSED competencies/standards; experience in administration/committee management; and, experience in academic advisement.

Department Description

The Department of Public Health and Health Education at the College at Brockport aspires to provide nationally recognized academic programs that prepare students for effecting positive changes in the health of the public and that contribute to the construction of “A Healthier New York.”

The Department of Public Health and Health Education prepares both undergraduate and graduate students to work in public health by providing education and utilizing high impact practices which build competencies outlined by national professional organizations and contribute to student success. The Public Health and Health Education faculty are committed to moving the field of public health forward by conducting and disseminating the findings of research, evaluation, and other creative endeavors and by contributing to advancement efforts driven by professional organizations.

The College

The College at Brockport, State University of New York, serves a diverse student body of over 7,100 undergraduate and 1,100 graduate students enrolled in 50 undergraduate majors and more than 50 masters’ programs, teacher certification programs and advanced graduate certificates supported by more than 750 instructional faculty and professional staff. Located in western New York, the College benefits from a small town atmosphere located near major metropolitan cities; 16 miles west of Rochester, 45 miles east of Buffalo, and 140 miles from Toronto.

Salary, Benefits and Appointment

Competitive salary commensurate with experience. We offer an excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, life, and vision insurances, retirement, and healthcare and dependent care savings accounts. This non-tenure track position will offer an initial 1 year contract followed by a 2 year contract and subsequent 3 year renewable contracts based on performance. Position is available August 2019.
