The Department of Criminal Justice at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Criminology at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2019. We particularly welcome applications from scholars from populations historically underrepresented in the academy and/or who have experience working in diverse populations.

We are seeking a faculty member who is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, and who will embrace the institutional mission, “The College at Brockport is an inclusive learning community that inspires excellence through growth, engagement and transformation.” We are committed to higher education and supporting the SUNY motto “to learn, to search, to serve.”

Major Responsibilities

Teach nine (9) undergraduate hours (3 courses) per semester; engage in multiple service related activities such as student advising including mentoring and service at the departmental, school, college, professional, and community levels; and, actively engage in scholarly or creative activities and/or strong demonstration of emerging record thereof including the pursuit of external grants.

Required Qualifications

• An earned doctorate in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology or other closely related field from an accredited US Department of Education or internationally recognized college or university. ABD candidates must earn their doctorate within 6 months of hire.

• Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence.

• Demonstration of productive scholarly/creative activities.

• Strong relationship building skills working with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Specialization area open with research interests and experiences in Criminology, Research Methods, and Criminal Investigation, and/or Cyber Crime.

• Ability to teach majority of the core courses in our criminal justice curriculum.

• Potential to teach and research in criminological areas.

• JD in combination with PhD seen as a positive quality.

• Primary consideration will be given to candidates with active research agenda, strong teaching skills, and applied experience.

Department Description

We are a growing, dynamic, interdisciplinary department serving a student population of about 800 students who are in the following categories; 527 majors in CRJ, 71 minors in CRJ, 140 minor in forensic science, and 60 criminal justice intents. In addition, our program emphasizes a strong focus on theory and practice.
