Season of Gratitude

In an effort to serve and bring awareness to those in need during this holiday season.

The Season of Gratitude at The College at Brockport is a period of time where our students will be able to participate in a variety of service opportunities throughout their local community. This weekend and next week, there are several events for you and/or students to attend below.

Saturday, November 9: The community hygiene bank is held at Concordia Lutheran Church. It offers families and individuals in need with hygiene blessing bags. The blessing bags contain items for personal care such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, body wash, lotion, razors, toothpaste, feminine products, paper products, laundry detergent, and cleaning items. Volunteers will help with the distribution of the bags, assisting the families and individuals that come in.

Sunday, November 11: Harvest Kitchen, organized and hosted by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Brockport, since 2009 is a ministry providing a free, healthy, hearty meal served once a month in a restaurant-like setting. Guests, numbering between 30 and 60 people, include everyone coming through their doors. Some are regulars; others may be people they've never met. They’re retirees, families with children, singles, indigent persons, and farm workers. Others may be college or nursery school students.

November 12-15: The cupboard is open the last week of each month from 9 am until 3 pm each day. Volunteers assist with signing people in and handing out the already bagged groceries. Volunteers sign up for a 2 or 3-hour shift during the week, more if their schedule permits. Lifting of grocery bags weighing approximately 3 pounds and simple computer skills are necessary.

Please spread the word to your students. These could be extra credit opportunities if you are so willing. Follow the link below for more information on each event.
